Garage Addition - Part 2 - July 2018

July 9th, 2018 -- Framing Materials/Equipment: 


Trusses arrived from Mitchell this morning - Jul 9th, 2018

Building Package/Kit arrived on:  July 10, 2018


Fork lift and trailer, compressor arrived on Friday July 13, 2018





July 16, 2018

Devon and Nick Rave - sons of Steve Rave - arrived about 8:30 am on Jul 16, 2018 to begin framing.

Devon and Nick framed three walls of garage addition

Bolted down treated 2x4s, built and placed three walls.










DR:  we’re gonna go ahead and keep rolling on your garage for you and should have it dried in by the end of next week.  So on July 16, 2018, the work began.

 

July 17, 2018

Devon and Nick placed trusses on walls

Removed siding from north wall of existing garage

Removed gutter from north side – 24 ‘ long

Cut into roofline about 18 inches

Nailed a couple sheets of OSB to new north wall

Temporary bracing all over

Rained about 3 pm, heavy with wind;  - left lots of standing water on floor.  (Gutters have been removed from existing garage on north side - so lots of water from there.)

David and Bob swept off entire garage floor.  David and Abby helped sweep water out of the garage later in the day.  Almost dry by 6 pm.


Rained again - heavy - about 7 pm - wet all over again.







July 18, 2018



OSB nailed on to most of all walls, and on 2/3 of roof.

Darrell order Garage Doors – will match existing garage doors

Devon and Nick – finished most of the tie-in to the existing roof, nailed down OSB on rest of roof.

Steve moved gravel pile, spread it around the new driveway area, added dirt around the slab






July 20, 2018


Finished roof line to existing roof
Finished nailed OSB on roof
Put down tar paper (?) over roof + ice barrier
Shingles will be delivered on Monday





July 21, 2018


Matt and Megan helped me move wood away from inside of North wall of existing garage, to make room for cutting doorway between garages



Heavy rain at 5 pm – 2.5 inches + strong winds blowing all directions including sideways – making it difficult to see when driving; garage floor flooded again.

July 23, 2018

Nailed down OSB on west wall – 4x8
Installed siding on west wall + north wall + tacked down Tyvec 
Shingles were delivered in afternoon
Two doors were hung – front door and back door
Nephews cut the 12” siding down to 9” siding
Nailed OSB on South wall – Upper Part
Fascia parts were delivered.



July 24, 2018

Nailed down shingles on roof; not quite done, short a few; will be delivered tomorrow


July 25, 2018


Nick and Devon finished shingling
They cut holes in roof for vents
DR took pickup load of trash away.
Installed more siding on North wall
Installed siding on East Wall
Added trim – 2x4 and 2x6 redwood around garage doors
Discussed additional concrete with Darrell
Discussed adding drywall to new shop area
Discussed new door locks, can use auction item – pushbutton locks

July 26, 2018


Siding added to East Wall plus small add to East Wall at Roof (Nick today).
First draw request from Darrell, request funding from B. Stordahl

Finished installing siding and Fascia on the South Wall
Added siding to North Walls

Discussed inside door – exterior steel door
Discussed garage doors – trim package on windows – can add to match existing garage doors
Discussed concrete plans
Discussed gutters on west wall/roof
Discussed mech room possible like lean to with metal roof + door
Dale (the electrician) will come on Wednesday
DR will get paint from Lowe’s to match sample of existing siding

July 31, 2018


Nick and Devon - Painted the North Wall siding to match existing siding
Caulked/sealed around the door on South Wall + siding ends





August 1, 2018


Dale the electrician – here all day, until 5 pm:
Wired 3 way to existing garage lights, new 3 way switches on each end
Pulled new wires thru attic to new garage from existing panel in center shop
Installed all boxes on walls and lighting boxes on ceiling
Relocated three plugs on exising wall near new door between garages
Drilled holes for 3 outside lights/flood light
Devon and Nick:  painted the South Wall
Cut doorway to existing garage, removed one stud
Clean up to make it easy for Dale to navigate


  


August 2, 2018

Workers took the Day off
Bob moved scrap to make pathway for car into new stall – south side
Cut some OSB scrap for various projects:  base for short heavy file cabinet wheels, base for Makita tablesaw table, base for Jet bandsaw, workbench top for rolling oak desk
Installed new bandsaw tires on Jet bandsaw





August 3, 2018


Dale returned at 7 am – worked until 3 pm.
Installed outside plug boxes; wired them (near front door, and near rear door)
Added a plug on garage divider wall  - requested by Bob, relocated two other boxes to even them out
Wired overhead lights in garage
Wired overhead boxes for LED Strip lighting in shop
Wired cove heaters (2) at 1200 Watts plus thermostat box
Rough Electrical is done except:
  1. Pull a wire for cove heaters from panel in center shop via attic
  2. Wire outside porch light after siding is installed at top of west wall – currently awaiting window before can finishing siding.
  3. Will return and add electric plus, etc, to Mech Room when Mech Room is built, cannot do electrical inspection until then.

Dale – discussed that mech room needs to be insulated so it doesn’t freeze in winter;  DR  decided to put door from garage to mech room so door can be opened when need to heat the mech room.  DR marked location of door on floor plate.  Dale redrilled holes to route wires up above the planned door.

f.        Fill in new driveway with gravel

Drywall delivered today - 5/8" for ceiling, 1/2" for walls.
