Shed Purchase May 2012

The garden tractor had outgrown the garage, so it was time to make a place for it in an out-building.

Search for a Shed Builder/Supplier

We visited several places in town, as well as our home builder for quotes.  There was a wide range of prices for the same product.  We selected Knecht Discount Center as our supplier for a 12' x 20' shed with a five foot side door and trim and siding to match the house  and garage.

Shed Ordered  4-25-2012

Site Selection/Pad Preparation
The location we chose was west of the shop, and located on a slight slope.  We would need to build a pad that would put the shed above the water slope and allow for room to level it.  We had a pretty good supply of rocks on the property, so we gathered them from a pile in the front yard that had been there when we purchased the property, as well as a pile in the back yard that was left over from the construction of the house.   There were also numerous rocks around the property that were protruding far enough to cause serious damage to mower blades, so we sent Steve off with his bobcat to dig up as many as possible.
Here's a shot of our property before the house was built in 2006.  One rock pile is visible near the center of the photo.

We selected a site west of the shop.  It needed some fill as it was on a slope.

We moved rock from a pile in the front yard, as well as rocks from the fields around the house.

With all the rocks that we could find dumped into the pad, we had a pretty good foundation.

This was before the first load of road gravel was added.

Here's the first load.

A second load was needed to properly fill and level the pad.

The pad is now ready for a shed.

Shed Delivered 5-21-2012

The shed was delivered on a truck with a dump bed, for obvious reasons.

Shed Dropped in Place

The shed dropped from the truck pretty fast, so just so you don't miss a thing, here's a movie of the event:

Painting the Trim

Kathie painted the trim to match the trim on the house and the garage, using a semi-transparent stain.  The shed was now ready for use.  Later that week, we added rain gutters, although that was an expensive request, and probably not really necessary.
